WWW.SCSBNET.COM's New Look!

Shelby County State Bank's website has a fresh look and improved navigation designed for quick and easy access to products and services.

Features of the redesign include a new, expansive Information Security Center. This section highlights the safeguards that SCSB already has in place for your accounts as well as steps you can take to protect your personal information online.

There is also an entire section dedicated to specifically to business banking. This portion features an extensive small business resource section with business tools and interactive workshops for starting, marketing and managing your business.

The online banking log-in for both business and personal accounts are available directly from the home screen. Once you're logged in to online banking, you'll see no changes and may continue to manage your accounts just as you did previously.

Our new site is user friendly with top-of-the line features providing the tools necessary to find the information you need efficiently and effectively.

Using Wi-Fi: Connect With Care

If you ever travel, chances are you will encounter a Wi-Fi hotspot (network) or two. Wi-Fi in airports, hotels, train stations, coffee shops and other public places can be convenient, but they are often not secure and can leave you at risk.

Whether you are entertaining the kids by streaming a video on a laptop, downloading new travel applications (apps) on your smartphone, or even taking your tablet poolside, there are precautions you should take to make sure your personal information is safe.

First and foremost, connect with care. If you are online through an unsecured network, you should be aware that malicious individuals may have established a Wi-Fi network with the intent to eavesdrop on your connection. This could allow them to steal your credentials, financial information or other sensitive and personal information. It is also possible that they could infect your system with malware. Any free Wi-Fi should be considered “unsecure”. Therefore, be cautious about the sites you visit and the information you release.

STOP. THINK. CONNECT.

Here are six tips to remember when using Wi-Fi:

  • Keep an updated machine. Having the latest security software, operating system, Web browser, and apps can help protect you from the malware and other threats you may encounter when using Wi-Fi.
  • Do not assume that the Wi-Fi connection is secure. Many hotspots do not encrypt the information you send on the Wi-Fi network.
  • Do not log into accounts, especially financial accounts, when using public wireless networks.
  • Do not log onto sites that do not seem legitimate. Clues for this could include the URL being misspelled or not matching the name that you were given by the place of business. It is not uncommon for cybercriminals to set up a Wi-Fi network called “free Wi-Fi” in airports, hotels, and other public places.
  • A cellular 3G/4G connection is generally safer than a Wi-Fi connection.
  • Consider turning off features on your computer or mobile devices that allow you to automatically connect to Wi-Fi.

Grand Prize and Second Semester Winners Drawn in Pays for A's Program

For the eighth year, SCSB will be offering the Pays for A's program for area middle and high school students.

The Pays for A's program allows middle and high school students who receive an “A” on their quarterly reports card to bring it in to any SCSB location to receive scholarship entries and a coupon for a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut. At the end of the school year, all entries are then entered for a chance to win the grand prize, a $1000 scholarship savings account.

Junior Savers' Club Members “Do You Know When It Will Snow?”

CLICK FOR ENTRY FORM PDF

We've all heard the folklore for weather forecasting: Count the number of foggy mornings in August or a ring around the moon means snow in 30 days. In reality, a kids' guess may be as good as anyone's! Which is why we thought it would be fun to hold a contest for all of our Junior Savers' Club members to let us know what day they think we'll have our first snow of the season.

To enter the “Do You Know When It Will Snow?” contest, simply fill out the attached entry form from your Junior Savers' Club member and return it to any Shelby County State Bank location. Or, you can email your entry to webmst@scsbnet.com. On your entry, please include: 1) What day you think we'll see our first snowfall and 2) How much snow you think we'll get (we will use that as a tie breaker).

The snow must be measurable (over ½ inch), and since we have several bank locations, the Harlan Municipal Airport will be the official measurement site. One entry per Junior Savers' Club member, please. All entries must be submitted to SCSB by October 15, 2013. Prizes for the top three guesses will be $20, $15, $10 – that's more money for you to save!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
